Join the Institute for the Study of Free Enterprise for the webinar "Can Healthcare Price Transparency Improve Patient Outcomes and Lower Costs?" on June 16th, 2020. 

We will host Senator Mike Braun, U.S. Senator from Indiana; Dr. Brian Blase, President and CEO of Blase Policy Strategies, LLC; Dr. Arthur Laffer, Founder and Chairman of Laffer Associates; and Dr. Larry Van Horn, Director of the Center for Healthcare Market at Vanderbilt University, for a discussion about price transparency in healthcare.

Mike Braun U.S. Senator

Senator Braun was elected to the Senate in 2018, and previously served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives. Before that, he was the founder and CEO of Meyer Distributing, a company he built in his hometown of Jasper that employs hundreds of Americans across the country. Senator Braun graduated summa cum laude from Wabash College with a degree in economics. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Brian Blase President and CEO, Blase Policy Strategies, LLC

Brian Blase received his PhD in economics from George Mason in 2013 and is now the President and CEO of Blase Policy Strategies. From January 2017 through June 2019, Dr. Blase served as a Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy at the White House’s National Economic Council. In this capacity, he coordinated the Trump Administration’s health policy agenda, leading the development of the administration’s policies to increase health care choice and competition. Dr. Blase has worked for key congressional committees in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate as well conducting research and analysis at several policy organizations. He often publishes research and commentaries, as a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal and New York Post, among other outlets.

Arthur B. Laffer Founder and Chairman, Laffer Associates

Arthur B. Laffer is the founder and chairman of Laffer Associates, an institutional economic research and consulting firm that focuses on the interconnecting macroeconomic, political and demographic changes affecting global financial markets. Dr. Laffer was a member of President Reagan’s Economic Policy Advisory Board for both of his two terms. He also advised Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on fiscal policy in the UK. Dr. Laffer received a B.A. in economics from Yale University. He received an MBA and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University. He was formerly the Distinguished University Professor at Pepperdine University and a member of the Pepperdine Board of Directors. He was also the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Business Economics at the University of Southern California and an Associate Professor of Business Economics at the University of Chicago.

Larry Van Horn Director of the Center for Healthcare Market, Vanderbilt University

Larry Van Horn is an Associate Professor of Economics and Management as well as Executive Director for Health Affairs in the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. In addition to being a leading expert on health care management and economics, he is responsible for the graduate health care programs at the Owen School and founded and directs the school’s Center for Healthcare Market Innovation. He also holds courtesy appointments in the medical and law schools. He is the founder and CEO of Preverity Inc, founder and partner of LVH Economics LLC, and a Senior Professional with Competition Economics LLC.  He also sits on several boards. He holds bachelor’s, MBA, and MPH degrees from the University of Rochester as well as a PhD from the Wharton School.
