William Gale is the Arjay and Frances Miller Chair in Federal Economic Policy and a Senior Fellow in the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. His research focuses on tax policy, fiscal policy, pensions and saving behavior. He is co-director of the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute and Director of the Retirement Security Project.
Bill received his Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford in 1987. He began his career as a professor at UCLA, then served on the Council of Economic Advisers during the first President Bush’s administration before joining the Brookings Institution in 1992. He is a prolific author of academic journal articles, book chapters, books, and legislative testimony.

William Gale's talk will be on his new book Fiscal Therapy: Curing America's Debt Addiction and Investing in the Future. This book highlights how rising debt will hurt America's economy and future generations, outlines fiscal policy reforms to reduce the debt and invest in our future, demonstrates benefits of new public investments in human and physical capital, and calls for action before imbalances and underinvestment weaken America.
